To say I'm a wee tired of my daily commute is an underestimate. I Hate It! Can there be any more idiots on the roads than the ones I deal with each day? I don't think it's possible, but I'm sure there are a lot of you that feel the same way.

Just to give you a quick history, recently my commute increased a wee more than 6 miles each way, from 12 miles to practically 20 miles Each Way. Yes, that's 40 miles a day I drive to and from work! I know there are much worse commutes than mine, but being one that hates sitting in a car for more than a trip to the local store, I'm having a hard time adjusting.

The think for the longer commute is due to our parent firm buying another firm in our industry. With the downturn in our economy, our two offices were forced to physically merge, despite it causing cramped quarters, in an attempt to save money in office space. The new office is farther from my house, hence the longer commute for myself and many others in my office. But, I have to think positive. I still have a job! during these economic times, I thank my lucky stars for this.

With this longer commute, of policy I'm now dealing with more idiots on the road. I ask myself many questions (often filled with profanities) when I'm behind these citizen who think they know how to drive. Questions such as:

1. Where did these citizen learn to drive? Walmart's School of Driving? (Does Walmart offer this service? I just made that up! Haha!)
2. Do these citizen purposely close their eyes when they go past a speed limit sign?
3. Do they think they're the only ones on the road?
4. Are they doing this on purpose to piss me off? What did I do to them?

If citizen learned to drive correctly I wouldn't be request these questions and my commute would be much more tolerable. I mean, come on, how hard is it to Pay concentration to the road, Read The Signs and effect Them? Seriously people! Drive or get off the road. Get out of my way until you've figured out where you're going or that you'll ultimately go the speed limit. And what's with taking a few blocks to get up to the speed limit after the light turns green??? Step On It!!! I'm not a speed demon by any stretch of the imagination, but when the light turns green, Freakin' Go!

The stress of my commute has forced me to find ways to deal with it. Such as:

1. Drumming my fingers on the dashboard while waiting for a slow driver to find the gas pedal helps me avoid honking at them. If the driver doesn't get the lead out after half a wee or so (if that long), I resort to banging on the horn anyway. I can't help it! I have the patience of a gnat.
2. Exhaling gently to relieve stress helps as well. Sometime I do this while drumming my fingers.
3. Conclusion my eyes for a few seconds at a time while at a stop light. I often do this while also doing #1 & #2.

Sometimes these stress relievers work. Sometimes they don't. It just depends on how bad it is that singular day. I have found that if none of those things help and I'm absolutely stressed out after work, I pour myself a wee Bailey's on the rocks. Now That Works! Bailey's just melts the stress away with the very first sip. Yum-O!

Lesson Learned: Slow down. Enjoy life. Drink Bailey's!

Seven Quick Steps to Start Surf Fishing Right Away

Get A Surf Rod And Reel Combo

I want you to go down to Walmart or one of the big sporting good chains. You have go to one of them within range of the coastline otherwise they won't carry any surf gear. Your budget for a surf rod and reel combo is under . You can probably find something for colse to . (A combo is a rod & reel combination)

Pick out any spinning surf rod and reel combo that strikes your fancy. Surf rods are heavier and longer than regular salt water rods. Get something at least 10' but not longer than 12' If you can find the Daiwa combo or the Shakespeare combo that's great. Otherwise most any surf combo will do. Remember this is a beginners intro. Once you get into it you'll probably want to get more expert gear.

Get The Minimum Required Tackle

This is going to a very short, straightforward list.
300 yds. Of mono filament line 20 lb. Test (if your combo didn't come spooled with line) 2 or maybe 3 Pyramid sinkers 3oz. Weight 1 pkg. Of 2/0 circle hooks ( Look at the ready made leaders with hooks on them so you can see how their set up) 1 pkg. Of #2 snap swivels
Get Your Gear Set Up

Okay now spool the line on your reel and don't wind it on too loosely. Wind your line on through a piece of Styrofoam or anything that will put a exiguous drag on it as fills up your reel. We're not going to deal with a shock leader at this stage. You probably won't be casting that hard anyway. If you don't know what a shock leader is don't worry about it. You can find when you need to know or just look it up. That's too much to get into at this stage.

With the hook and sinker you can go one of two ways. Whether one will get the job done at this point.

Method #1

Make a short 12" leader for the hook and tie it on your line about 18" from the end of your line (Remember you saw hooks with leaders at the tackle store). Tie a snap swivel on the end of your line and attach the pyramid sinker to it..

Method #2

Attach a #2 snap swivel to a pyramid sinker and slide in on your line so that it can slide freely. Attach someone else #2 snap swivel to the end of your line and attach a leader to it with a 2/0 hook on it.

That's it your surf rig is ready to go.

Learn To Cast

Pick an approved location like a park or ball field where there won't be any citizen around. You can tape off the hook for protection so you won't have to take it off. Now I want you to institution casting until you can cast with a basic whole of control for direction and distance. This isn't a bad idea even if you have some experience. institution until you can cast 100' to 200' with a cheap whole of predictability. If you can do great that's great. Find a time when high tide occurs in the early daylight hours or colse to early dusk. It doesn't matter which one you pick. You are going to fish a two hour window before and after high tide which will be four hours of fishing time. Now you know when to go fishing.

Get Some Bait

Now it's time to start fishing. Head over to the local bait shop. Buy a dozen 3" - 4" shrimp. (Get a fishing license if you need one.) Head for the surf and get your gear out. Hook one of the shrimp through the tail about an inch from the end. Cast into the designated spots, get in a comfortable chair and hold on. If something doesn't happen in 20 to 30 minutes cast into one of the other areas that you scouted at low tide.

From the data I've given you, at this level of skill you have the best occasion of landing something very exciting. There's a good occasion you will use all of your bait catching fish.
